Being unemployed is no fun. This is especially true during an economic recession like the one America began in 2008. For the job seekers, the pursuit of happiness seems a little more harder. For the job seekers, success in life seems a little more unlikely to accomplish. One of the keys to getting a job remains the same, as far as you must apply to many employers. The more applications that are filled out, the better. However, some American employers make this process more difficult than it has to be. There are a lot of job seekers who would just like to go on the internet and submit a prepared resume to a job they feel qualified to do. There are a lot of employers who create barriers to that. They make you fill out a long, tedious application in a special and awkward format. Often times the information they ask of you is the same information you can supply with your resume. Often times their application process will ask you to submit your resume and then proceed to make you rewrite your resume by asking you the exact same questions that are answered with your resume. In the following paragraphs this madness will be further examined.
America has a lot of smart, capable, hard working citizens out of work. They want to apply to as many jobs as possible. Some of them, especially college graduates have prepared resumes outlining their work experience, education, objective, skills and references. Those people would love it if they could just go to a company website that is advertising an open position and simply submit their resume. A lot of times those people are disappointed. In order to find success they must rewrite their resume but and still submit their resume with a cover letter.
One reason that can attempt to justify this is some job seekers don’t have resumes. That is fine but why can’t a company design a resume builder/application for those who don’t and allow those that do to skip the resume builder/application.
Another reason is that in order to make you an official employee for a company you need to register through the system, fill out an application, etc. That is fine but most times when you are hired you do this at orientation. During the hiring process why can’t companies just make it easy for job seekers. The unemployment rate is too high. Americans want to work and they want to apply for jobs. They want to find success in life. Why must they go through all the red tape?
This process that sometimes occurs with the rewriting of resumes can be maddening. It can be very frustrating, especially if you have had to go through it many times. How do people keep a calm head and not scream at their computer? Well, this is a simple question about a person’s natural temperament. This is a question about how people deal with stress. One way to think of this is to view it as how does a person view life. If the person is a “glass half full” type of person they are likely not to loose control as easily. Still others have religion. A relationship with God can be very powerful in relieving stress. An understanding that Jesus Christ is real, forgiving, died on a cross for your sins and all powerful is all some people need to deal with stress. Still for others having a positive feeling on their body image is enough to deflate stress. These people deal with stress through diet and exercise. When they are bothered by something they look in the mirror and say “damn I look good” and it make them feel better. Still others may get stressed and soothe it by thinking about hitting up the gym. Still others deal with stress by staying focused on the task at hand. A good example of this strategy is looking at officers in the military during war time. Officers in command see a lot of stressful things, such as blood, guts, screams, tears and death. Military officers in command don’t allow stress to overtake them because they stay focused on the mission. They concentrate on success and winning the battle.
In conclusion, people who are unemployed and have been unemployed for a long time can easily get frustrated. It could be many things like not seeing many jobs to apply for. It could be the really long employment applications that basically ask you to rewrite your resume. In the end the best thing to do is to just stay focused on the task at hand. The task at hand is getting a job. The task is applying for jobs by any means necessary including rewriting resumes and all. The task is Americans finding success in this country that we call America.
